Stargazer is a small MPV that Hyundai Thanh Cong sells to compete with rivals Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz, Suzuki Ertiga...
If you are familiar with the traditional design on MPVs in the segment such as Mitsubishi Xpander, Toyota Veloz, Suzuki XL7, the design of Hyundai Stargazer may take more time for users to get used to. The windshield is not placed directly in the A column as usual, but is longer, connected to the bonnet, making the front of the car look like it is "squeezed". This design is to optimize the car's wind resistance coefficient, Stargazer's 0.32Cd is the lowest in the segment.
If viewed horizontally, Stargazer looks like an Xpander with "beveled" front and back ends. The visual perception is the same, but in terms of size parameters, the Hyundai model is equivalent to competitors in the segment.
Hyundai Stargazer is long, wide, and tall at 4,460 x 1,780 x 1,695 mm with a ground clearance of 185 mm, a wheelbase of 2,780 mm. The car is equipped with full LED headlights on the two highest versions, the rest are halogen types. Rectangular steering wheel with X-shaped chrome trim combines both sides of the lights. LED lights across the tail and the most stylish triangular taillights in the segment.
LED daytime running lights, fog lights, power-folding rearview mirror, 16-inch wheels are standard equipment. Automatic high beam feature is available on all versions, except the standard version.
Furniture and amenities
The Stargazer cockpit is designed mainly in the horizontal direction. The 10.25-inch entertainment screen connects the 4.2-inch LCD speedometer (3.5-inch standard version) familiar on recent Kia models. However, the panel connecting the two clocks is not very elegant.
Hyundai says the Stargazer has a 71-degree opening, the largest in its segment, making it easier to get in and out of the car. The amount of comfort on the MPV model is the richest in the segment when it supports wireless Apple CarPlay / Android Auto connectivity, interior lighting. The two most advanced versions have a smart key with remote car start function, automatic air conditioning, wireless phone charger with cooling feature, 8-speaker Bose audio and a separate amplifier.
All seats have USB charging ports and storage compartments. Tire pressure sensor feature is available on all versions, except the standard version. Besides, there is automatic throttle, speed limiter.
Stargazer is also the first MPV model in the segment with a 6-seat configuration, besides the traditional 5+2.
Engine and safety equipment
Stargazer is equipped with a new 1.5-liter Smartstream G 1.5L gasoline engine, with a capacity of 115 horsepower at 6,300 rpm, maximum torque of 144 Nm at 4,500 rpm. In this sale in Vietnam, the car has only one choice of iVT gearbox (Hyundai's CVT gearbox with belts made in the form of chains). Front-wheel drive system. The 6-speed manual transmission is not available as in the Indonesian market.
Stargazer's engine has the same 1.5 capacity as its competitors, but has the greatest power and torque. Except for the lowest version, the remaining versions all have electronic balance, support for horizontal departure, traction control.
SmartSense safety package with features such as rear collision avoidance, pedestrian and blind spot assist, auto high beam / cos lights, lane keeping assist, safe door opening warning, driver fatigue warning driver, only on the top two versions. This amount of equipment makes the Stargazer the most abundant model in terms of safety features.
TC Motor's ambition in the MPV . segment
In Vietnam, Stargazer was born late after giving birth, joined the segment late, and has the least brand recognition in the small multi-purpose vehicle group. Hyundai and TC Motor therefore choose the approach that has been the strongest strength of Korean cars in recent years in Vietnam: convenience to approach customers.
Stargazer offers the richest amount of comfort in the small MPV segment, where Japanese rivals have monopolized for many years with the name Mitsubishi Xpander , more recently Toyota Veloz . The appearance of the Korean model can create conflicting arguments about balance and aesthetics, but in terms of pampering customers with "options", Stargazer has the upper hand over the rest. This can be seen as the strongest point for Hyundai's model to find opportunities before Japanese rivals.
The 6-seat configuration that no Japanese competitor has yet offers a new option for customers in this segment.
The presence of Hyundai Stargazer makes the race in the MPV segment under VND 700 million more exciting. Currently, all combat vehicles are imported from Indonesia. Xpander owns the advantage of balanced appearance, influence for many years, is the most popular MPV model in Vietnam. Toyota's Veloz has the upper hand in branding but is the most expensive. Suzuki's two models, the Ertiga and XL7 , have improved with many equipment, but their appearance is still monotonous, the supply is difficult, and it is not possible to break out of the last group in terms of sales.
